SR22
Q: How do I get an SR22?
A: You can get an SR22 by getting in touch with an insurance company that is able to sell SR22 car insurance. As soon as you pay for your premium, the agent will send a form requesting an SR22 to the Louisiana DMV. The SR22 goes from there to the Secretary of State. Allow for up to a month for this to happen. Once approved, you get a copy of your SR22 form from your car insurance provider, along with note from the Secretary of State.
You’ll have to keep your SR22 car insurance for 36 months, or 3 years. If your SR22 insurance gets cancelled or doesn not get renewed, the insurance provider will have to submit an SR-26 Cancellation Certificate. Once this is received, your license will be suspended, and you can’t get it back until you have SR22 insurance again.
