SR22 bond

Q: How long do I have to retain my SR22 bond?

A: This will depend on the state it was originally required of you in. Since we’re in Louisiana, I’m going to assume the default, but if you’ve moved here from another state with an existing SR22 bond requirement, the answer may be different.

In Louisiana, you are required to maintain your SR22 bond insurance for three years from the date of your license suspension if you want to have your license reinstated. If you choose not to drive during those three years, then you won’t have to pay for any SR22 bond insurance. Even though you are only required to maintain your SR22 bond for three years, though, it wil continue to affect your record and could cause higher prices for as much as five years.
