Reader’s Question:

Where can I find out information regarding the limits of personal auto liability insurance in my state? I am a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

You are required by law in Louisiana to have 10/20/10 liability insurance coverage on your motor vehicle. This means that if you are liable for injury or damage in a car accident, the minimum liability policy will pay up to $10,000 for bodily injury for one person, $20,000 for bodily injury for more than one person and a total of $10,000 for property damage.

If you want to know what your current insurance policy is you can contact your insurance agent. If you want to buy an insurance policy with greater limits you can again speak with your insurance carrier or shop around for Louisiana automobile insurance. If you have other car insurance questions you can contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance or the Department of Motor Vehicles can also help you.
